Two years ago the water bill was $30 a month. Now it's $100 a month because the city put in a sewer system when the septic system that the town was on was working just fine. Greed.

So now we're being charged more than triple the rate for water. Pay it or do without as turn off notices are issued in 30 days from when the bill was sent.

I truly live in the dumbest place in America, as reported by Forbes Magazine.

Since the goal of education is to empower thought, I cannot support sex education without reaching the logical conclusion that optional weapons training needs to be included too. Like sex, folks are going to do it anyway, so we might as well help them be as safe and responsible as possible when doing it.

While working with my partner, Sherwood Akuna, on his evolutionary Akuna Brass Catcher, a snap on brass rat that attaches to a pistol, I realized I had to learn something about guns.

Thank you Jack and Marlene Duncan, the Lake Havasu City Sportsman's Club, the NRA and their Women On Target - From The Women of the NRA classes for the trainings that you do.

I was on the sidelines taking pictures when the event's leader, the powerful marksman Marlene Duncan, held the sight empowerment circle pictured at the top of this posting. Notice the daytime moon at the center top of the shot. So many thoughts about guns were rushing through my soul that I didn't even know were there, distracting me from the goal at hand.

I went with Sherwood who had volunteered for the event. Usually when I went with Sherwood to the range, I stayed in the van. A place for women and guns gave me the grace to try again.

A touch of context. I am an old hippie from the 60's, raised in New England and grew up in a house with plenty of guns of all sizes. The parenting style was old school, which I think we need to revisit.

When it was legal for a parent to spank their children, children were not going to school shooting people, and like Michael Moore, engaged in responsible gun use. There is no sin in responsible gun use.

My father use to tell the 10 girls in the family that if we touched his guns he would have to beat us, then kill (shoot) us. My two brothers were taught how to use a gun. I had no problem choosing life. Guns were viewed as a tool for survival rather than an instrument of death. I was not going to mess with my father's tools.

My Dad's bounty from hunting trips yielded a rich wild flavor above my taste grade despite proper field dressing. Sherwood and I have been vegetarians for years by choice, not eating anything that had a face.

Marlene opened a door for me when she said:

"I only shoot paper."

Sherwood has a prayer he says when he buys guns. It is

"Lord, let this gun shoot its entire life piercing only paper."

For my father and his friends, hunting was a sacred male trust and I did not qualify. One day they beat a man for being drunk when he went hunting with them. The man went away from the group, saying he was relieving himself, and came back with alcohol on his breath. My father said that flask almost cost that man his life, because a drunk mind with a gun endangers everyone. The same is true of ignorance. These men were responsible for families and safety was part of their demonstration of manhoood.

As an adult I lived in NYC for 25 years and saw no reason for anyone to have a gun in a populated area. The risk of innocent people being killed out weighted the joy of shooting. What I thought was wisdom not interacting with guns, was in fact hidden fear.

At the training, Jack asked 'is anyone afraid of guns?" I thought initially 'my reluctance to interact with guns is not fear, but wisdom.' I was wrong. It was masked, ancient fear, a failure to solve the problem of peace on earth to people of good will.

Jack put an empty gun on a table and told it to shoot him. Nothing happened. My first thought was 'yeah, what if it fell, misfired and hit someone? What if the police had the wrong address or a thug grabbed the exposed gun, loaded and finished the process?'

Jack said:

The problem is not the guns, it's the knuckleheads behind the guns.

Both my partner and my father, two other marksmen, said

Ignornance is the greatest danger in gun use.

The fault in my logic was that even a gun falling and/or mis-firing is still not the gun killing people. The reaction of a gun shooting is traced back to the person responsible, a knucklehead who left a loaded gun unsecured.

The national conversation about guns should really listen to what smart gun users say.

Since the best way to solve a problem is at the level of cause and effect, as our nation deals with the cause of gun violence, folks being knuckleheads in the presence of guns (or any other power), the effect, the death of innocent people, can be dramatically reduced.

I've always thought there should be a class called 'thinking.' Henry Hamblin wrote a book called Dynamic Thought: Harmony, Health, Success, Achievement, Self Mastery, Optimism, Prosperity and Peace of Mind Through the Power of Right Thinking 1923 and Norman Vincent Peale's The Power of Positive Thinking would be good foundation texts. There are many others to consider.

For the same reasons we have sex education, responsible gun training needs to be in the schools and other NRA affiliated organizations, like our local ranges, to balance what folks learn in the streets. An alert gun trainer in the schools could have seen Columbine coming and taken appropriate action before there was a crisis.

Gun use is a sacred responsibility written into the constitution for a reason. Since both Washington and Jefferson were hemp farmers, they didn't see a need to write a plant into the constitution...but they did see a need to write in weapons for self defense.

Responsibility, safety and wisdom need to continue being stressed in training at the same time the mechanics of shooting are taught. Alternative conflict resolution techniques should be taught too.

I still don't believe the constitution gives someone right to bring a loaded weapon into a public place who is not certified and easily traceable.

However, the key to solving gun violence is found on the sight, the person responsible for the gun, and not the trigger.

I urge responsible gun training be re-instituted in schools and funded on local ranges so even the poor can attend.

9/11 was an inside job.

"Blair Gadsby, the 45-year-old former owner of an adult-care home and an adjunct professor of religious studies at a community college, never figured he would be the type of person to stage a hunger strike outside the Phoenix office of U.S. Sen. John McCain.

But about a year ago, Gadsby convinced himself that the U.S. government, not terrorists, demolished the World Trade Center buildings in New York on Sept. 11, 2001. And that belief has turned him into a fasting activist.

"I've never been politically active until the 9/11 subject came up," he said, sitting on a fabric folding chair last week along 16th Street, outside the complex that houses McCain's Phoenix office.

Gadsby's vigil on the sidewalk goes from sunrise to sunset. He holds up a sign that features a Canadian tabloid's front-page photo of a jet hitting one of the towers. Underneath is his count of the days he has been fasting. Today, it will be Day 15.

He has dropped 15 pounds. He feels weak by the end of the day. He has had eggs thrown at him by taunting motorists. His wife is not happy with him. He worries whether he'll lose his teaching job.

Still, once he locked in on the idea that the government planned the murder of thousands of its citizens, it became his overriding priority. He wondered why it wasn't getting more attention, so he got the idea to sacrifice himself for some attention.

"I felt we needed the coverage," Gadsby said. "We've just been ignored, if not downright suppressed."

In May 2007, Gadsby, who was already skeptical that terrorists caused the attacks, found a video online that showed the collapse of World Trade Center 7. He believes the government has ordered media outlets not to show the footage, which shows the building falling in on itself, much like a building does when it implodes.

The footage clinched it for Gadsby. He had to rethink all he had accepted about the terrorist attacks. He spent sleepless nights thinking about how the government planted explosions in Building 7 and then, most likely, the twin towers. Then, how they must have hired men to pilot the planes. And then ordered the media to cover it all up. And so on, and so on.

"It begins to snowball on you," Gadsby said.

He said he plans to go without food until McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, agrees to meet with him. Last week, two McCain staffers offered to meet with him and get his information to the senator, but Gadsby refused. Gadsby, who was raised in Ottawa, Canada, and moved to Phoenix in 1992 to be in the sunshine, starts his day around 6 a.m. He wears a sweater to ward off the morning chill and sets up underneath the office complex sign that lists McCain's name.

Besides the sign he holds that marks the days of his fast, Gadsby has other signs he tapes to or leans against his chair.

Gadsby uses the restroom in the car wash across the street, buying a bottle of water every third time he goes, he said. He has handed out literature there and believes he has a few converts.

Other than that occasional trip, Gadsby sits. "I thought at first I'd have to bring books or something to read," he said, "but the days go by rather well, rather quickly."

Around midmorning, when the summer sun starts to heat up the sidewalk, Gadsby moves a few feet north to be shaded by the building that houses McCain's office. "What a difference, eh?"

Gadsby says, after moving his chair to the shade and sprinkler-dampened grass.

A man getting on a bus across 16th Street shouts, "Get a life."

For a while, Gadsby's bid for attention got him just a few interviews with online radio hosts. But last week, state Sen. Karen Johnson, a Republican from Mesa, visited Gadsby and delivered a letter to McCain's office asking him to meet with Gadsby. That garnered coverage in The Republic, as well as a major news radio station and two television stations.

Gadsby was gratified.

"This is one of the few times that we at least got a hearing and weren't portrayed as bananas," he said.

It also helped him get out of the doghouse with his wife, who asked that her name not be included in this article. Gadsby said his wife, a nurse, did not want him to go on his hunger strike and was in tears when he returned home the first few nights.

Gadsby said his wife does not subscribe to all his theories, although she is open to the possibility that the whole story hasn't been told. Gadsby did his own research online and has developed his own narrative of the attacks: Hijackers hired by the government, and protected from police scrutiny by the FBI during their time in America, drove the planes into the World Trade Center towers, setting off explosives that had been planted months earlier, perhaps during elevator maintenance.

Some of Gadsby's theories, and those of the 9/11 Truth Movement, were looked into by Popular Mechanics in a 2005 article and a subsequent book. The magazine found that the theories had no merit and called them "poisonous."

"What we saw was that the errors and misrepresentations of the conspiracy movement were not simply innocent errors," said Jim Meigs, editor in chief of Popular Mechanics. "In many cases, they were very, very deliberate distortions."

Meigs asked McCain to write the forward to the book, and the senator agreed.

Gadsby clutched a copy of the magazine's book, Debunking 9/11 Myths, marked up with his own notes.

"I'm accusing Popular Mechanics as being part of the cover-up," he said.

On the cover, where McCain's name is mentioned as writing the forward, Gadsby had written a note theorizing that McCain was either lying or was lied to. He said he respects McCain, so he was clinging to the notion that the state's senior senator was lied to.

Gadsby knows it's a long shot that McCain will meet with him.

But Gadsby has no end date for his protest. Except he hopes that by August he could return to teaching religious studies at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.

He figured his fast would end with him passing out and being carted away by supporters.

"I won't do this again," he said. "I'll just say, 'I did my best.' "

I was falsely arrested, a victim of police brutality and received bogus charges against me.

On the night of September 29th, 2006 (my birthday) my girlfriend and I went out to celebrate my 33rd birthday.

Initially it was just 3 of us but then 2 other couples joined us at Kokomo's bar in Lake Havasu City. My girlfriend, who admits to having a drinking problem, to no surprise got extremely drunk and knocked me off of my bar stool.

I was sitting at a table with our friends. She had been going to and from the bathroom due to the amount of liquid she had been drinking.

The Kokomo's security and my friends helped me up as my girlfriend ran to the front entrance of Kokomo's.

I sat back on my chair and my friend asked me, "what's up with that?"

I said I don't know.

I noticed my girlfriend running towards the front of Kokomo's and I decided to follow. When I caught her she was already at the front of Kokomo's.

Without asking me any questions, Kokomo's security escorted me around to the front of the London Bridge resort. I asked them where we were going and they just told me to shut up.

I wasn't concerned because I knew I had done nothing wrong.

When we got to the front, they sat me down on the curb and just told me to wait there.

A couple of minutes later the police pulled into the parking lot with their lights flashing.

As the police pulled into the parking lot, Kokomo's security then placed hand cuffs on me very tightly. I did not like this and I told them to take them off or at least loosen them.

When the police approached me one of them was extremely angry and loud. Screaming in my ear and accusing me of hitting my girlfriend.

I didn't like this and I began getting extremely upset too.

I told them to remove the cuffs because I didn't assault anyone.

They then asked me how she got a mark from her glasses on her face.

I told them I don't know.

They ended up interviewing her and somehow got her to press charges against me. Mind you the next day she said she blacked out and didn't remember even attacking me at the bar.

So the police decided they wanted to arrest me and the Kokomo's security removed their handcuffs and I rubbed my wrists to help the pain from the handcuffs go away.

The police, still angry and screaming and yelling at me placed me in their handcuffs.

I told them that I had witnesses and that I was the one that was attacked.

They said oh yea, you have witnesses? I said yes and the asked me for their names.

I told them their names and the police officers blew it off as if I hadn't said anything. Then they removed my vision glasses and started walking me towards the police car. An officer on each side of me.

At the time of the arrest I was sick so as we were walking up to the police car I began caughing and spitting out mucus.

Then the officer on my left screamed in my ear to spit again, spit one more time. I spit again and he yelled out, that is assault.

He then took control of me from the other police officer and slammed my face in the hood of the patrol car.

The blow to my face was with such tremendous force I thought all of my front teeth had fallen out of my mouth.

They didn't but it did cause my nose and mouth to bleed extensively. Enough to drip blood on my clothes.

Me being almost unconcious from the blow to my head, I remember someone wiping the blood from my face because remember I was already in handcuffs.

In the police car, I told them that I was innocent, I have never been in trouble before and that I was going to file complaints against them for police brutality. They were still furious and screeming for me to shut up.

I started telling them about myself and how I am a good citizen and all they did was try to belittle me and initimdate me everyway they could think of. From my job and income to the ability for me to have a girlfriend.

When we got to the police station they give you a card to fill out to tell about yourself and now more police officers had joined in on the intimidation of me.

Laughing and verbal abuse went on and on.

The next morning I found out that there was two felony 6 charges against me.

The first one was asault domestic violence and the second was assault on a police officer.

I posted my $5000 bail and was released.

The next morning I hung out with my friends that were at the bar with us and they couldn't believe that I got arrested. They knew that if anyone should have been arrested it should have been my girlfriend.

My girlfriend couldn't hang out because she was too hung over from the night before. I got the two police reports from the police station and they were just filled with lies and exagerations. They even put stuff that my girlfriend knows she didn't say.

I went to court when I was asked to and the original charges were dropped. We thought we had dodged a bullet and I decided not to file a police brutality complaint so that I could just go on with my life.

About a month later, I got a certified letter in the mail saying the DA has filed 3 new misdemeanor charges against me.

M1 Disturbing the peace domestic violence,

M1 resisting arrest (me rubbing my wrists due to the pain) and

M3 assault.

Needless to say I wish I did go through with the police brutality complaint.

So now I have hired a lawyer and I am awaiting trial.

They gave me a plea bargain but it is completely ridiculous.

They want me to have 3 years probation with no alchohol, anger management counselling, $1500 fine and 180 days in jail with 150 days suspended.

All of this because the police didn't take the time to figure out what actually happened. They made it very clear they had something personal against me and they assaulted me.

Senator Hillary Clinton is formally introducing the Count Every Vote Act.
Senator Clinton’s Act includes "Providing paper receipts for electronic voting machines, creating uniform standards for provisional ballots, and guaranteeing adequate equipment to prevent long waiting lines are common-sense reforms. They will help strengthen our democracy and they are supported by the vast majority of Americans."

This is a sad time in America where our rights are being stripped {reporters without the right of free speech/silence or the right to know our vote counts}; freedoms taken away {Patriot Act}, and we are required to carry papers in our homeland {Nazi Germany and Apartheid South Africa.} Lord help those of us without papers.

It's an exciting time to be a Democrat in America, especially in Arizona. We are getting this country back on track.

Arizona is deemed a red state. Great place to help empower the much needed, international, positive, healing change. With the great Tsunami of 2004, where over 1/4 of a million people were basically washed away, the rest of us are just left behind, with responsibility to make things right.

That last election is proven riddled with fraud - PRESERVING DEMOCRACY: WHAT WENT WRONG IN OHIO, Status Report of the House Judiciary Committee Democratic Staff. Please review the report, then demand integrity be restored to the voting system. Integrity also should be applied to the presidential election of 2004. Prove the Ohio vote was in order or redo the counting of the 2004 electoral college votes.
